The recruitment is for the 137 Composite Ecological Task Force Battalion (Territorial Army), 39 Gorkha Rifles. Eligible candidates are ex-servicemen who are pension holders, and ex-women employees (including those who retired prematurely) of MoEF&CC and State Forest Departments with a minimum of 20 years of service.
✅ Eligibility Criteria:
- Ex-servicemen who are pension holders only.
- Ex-women employees of MoEF&CC and State Forest Departments with minimum 20 years of service (premature retirement also eligible).
- JCOs should be enrolled within five years from the date of retirement. JCOs can serve up to 55 years. Other ranks (OR) can serve up to 50 years.
- Medical category: SHAPE-1. Character: Exemplary / Very Good.

A 5 cm relaxation in height and weight (commensurate with reduced height) is available for women from North-East and hill areas such as Gorkhas, Assamese and Garhwalis.
✅ Selection Process and Tests:
- Physical tests for male candidates: 1-mile run, pull-ups, 8-foot ditch and zigzag balance beam.
- Proficiency test: Trade test for tradesmen candidates. Test related to afforestation and nursery management for ex-women employees.
- Medical examination for candidates who pass the physical tests.
- Interview by the Board of Officers.
- Final enrolment subject to eligibility, medical fitness and selection requirements.
Candidates must bring original documents: Discharge Book, Pension Payment Order (PPO), education certificate, domicile certificate, character certificate from Village Sarpanch or Police Authority, and original plus eight recent passport-size colour photographs.
✅ Service Conditions and Pay:
- Enrolment is initially for two years, which may be extended by one year at a time depending on performance, suitability and project requirements.
- The Territorial Army is a voluntary organisation and essentially a part-time job.
- Enrolled personnel receive basic pay and Dearness Allowance according to their rank and service group.
- Other applicable allowances such as Children Education Allowance, Hill Compensatory Allowance, HRA and Road Mileage Allowance may be admissible.
- Pension, increment and gratuity are not admissible for the service rendered in the Ecological Task Force Battalion under this recruitment.
- Canteen and medical facilities are available as applicable to other units.
